After Andrew Rodwell started teaching self-defence classes for the locals, he built up a few regular attendees, including Sandra Jago. Sandra had mistaken Andrew's friendliness for flirting and he was eventually forced to tell her that he was married. During the next class, Andrew's wife, Wendy, turned up, along with newcomer, 18-year-old Archie Skehill. Archie appeared to see the class as a dating opportunity and, after being paired up with Sandra, said that she was a bit old for him. When he continued to make inappropriate comments, Sandra finally snapped and Andrew asked Archie to leave the class, leaving Wendy upset as she saw Andrew comforting Sandra and helping with her injured shoulder.

A couple of month later, new student Saskia Ramsay arrived at Erinsborough High, having experienced bullying at her previous schools. When she tried to help art teacher Wendy Rodwell, who was struggling with covering a maths class, Archie mocked Saskia in front of everyone. Later, Archie was furious to find that the wheels on his bike had been slashed and, as he angrily accused other students, Saskia smiled to herself, showing that she wasn't quite as innocent and studious as she made herself out to be.
