When rumours started spreading around Erinsborough High that student Taj Coppin was in a secret relationship with teacher Libby Kennedy, Libby found herself losing the respect of the students, as she asked Deanne Smith to pick up some rubbish she'd just dropped in the yard, only to be laughed at. Some weeks later, Deanne was impressed when she saw new student Sky Mangel hanging around with Nina Tucker, who, thanks to her singing career, was becoming something of a celebrity. Unconventional Sky, however, started ranting about teenagers idolising pop stars and Deanne called her a freak.
