After going to Fitzgerald Motors to enquire about having some work done on his car, Thomas Spencer was told by mechanic Chris Pappas that they couldn't do the work, as there wasn't a senior enough mechanic available. Garage owner Lucas Fitzgerald then arrived and told Thomas that they could do the work, though Chris was concerned, as Lucas had recently undergone an operation and radiotherapy for testicular cancer, and wasn't ready to return to work yet. Needing the money for his upcoming wedding, Lucas ignored his own health and attempted to fit in as much work as possible. Later that day, Thomas called by for an update on his car, and Lucas insisted that it would be ready the next day. After checking that Lucas was OK, Thomas left, but moments later, Lucas passed out on the floor of the garage. At the hospital, tests showed a mass of blood in his abdomen - a result of his previous operation - which had caused him to pass out.
