After the breakdown of her marriage to Ian Burns, Margaret Truscott's second marriage, to Don, was no easier, as her daughter Rachel failed to get along with her new stepfather, and would repeatedly skip school and run away from home. One day, Rachel went to her father's home, only to find that he'd gone overseas for a few months on a business trip and had leased the house to Daphne Lawrence. Daphne did her best to get through to Rachel, but then Ian returned, determined to sort the whole mess out. After finally realising how badly affected Rachel had been, Ian agreed to call Margaret and Don and arrange a meeting for them all to discuss the matter. Margaret was still very bitter towards Ian, and wanted Rachel to return home immediately, but Daphne finally made her see how much their behaviour was hurting Rachel. Margaret asked her daughter where she wanted to go, and Rachel said that she wanted to stay with her dad, but agreed to visit home at weekends and in the holidays.
