After taking over Harold's Store, Lauren Turner was horrified when, only hours after re-opening the business, the electrics in the kitchen failed, meaning that they couldn't serve any hot food. Lauren called in electrician Barney Wellington, who explained that he'd known about the problem for a while, and had told the previous manager Steph Scully about it, but she'd never called him back to get the work done. Realising that she was already losing money, Lauren agreed to pay the bill to have the work done, though she was already in debt with the bank. In the end, her employee Vanessa Villante offered to loan the money to Lauren, in exchange for her using the kitchen in the evenings, to start up her own cupcake business.
