As Daniel Fitzgerald and his wife, Samantha, were preparing to leave Erinsborough for a new life in New Zealand, she was having second thoughts, having realised that his heart was actually with Libby Kennedy. At the airport, she claimed to be going to the bathroom, but as time went on and their flight was called, Dan went looking, asking Alison Wood, as she left the bathroom, if there was anyone else inside. When Alison confirmed that they were empty, Dan realised that Sam had gone, and he returned home to find a letter from her, asking him not to follow her, and their divorce papers, which she had signed.
