Growing tired of his role as a porter at Lassiters Hotel, Ned Willis voiced this to his stepmother, and hotel manager, Terese, who suggested that he might be a good addition to their front of house team. Ned was immediately put to work on the hotel reception, struggling to find his feet as a guest named Zach Zuker arrived to check in. As Ned attempted to work the booking system and find Zach's reservation, the guest became impatient and announced that he'd be waiting outside, handing Ned his bags and making him feel like he was still a porter. After a few days, Terese realised that Ned wasn't happy on reception either and offered him the job of organising the relaunch for the hotel's rooftop pool, telling him that, if it went well, she might consider him as pool manager.
