The Murphy farm 1996
Residents: Hugh Murphy (1996), Edna Murphy (1996), Jeffrey Murphy (1996), Murphy (1996)

Whilst driving through the Victorian countryside, on their way to spend a holiday at a luxury hotel on a winery estate, Karl and Susan Kennedy's car broke down and, miles from the nearest town, they were rescued by farmer Hugh Murphy on his tractor. He took them back to the ramshackle farm he shared with wife Edna and son Jeffrey, before contacting Stretch, the mechanic in town, who said that the car would need a new water pump, and it'd take a few days for that to come in. Karl and Susan were horrified at the thought of spending their entire holiday with the terrifying Murphy clan, and things only got worse as they spent the night in a creeky bed, which left the Murphys thinking they'd been doing more than just sleeping, with Jeffrey coming in during the night to oil the springs. The next morning, Hugh and Edna had gone on a trip to visit Aunt Aggie at Diamond Dam, leaving Jeffrey behind to look after the farm and the Kennedys. When Jeffrey caught them with all their cases, trying to leave, he made them feel bad and they agreed to stay a little while longer. Soon, both Karl and Susan were enjoying the fresh country air, and Karl was remembering how much he'd loved country life before the move to Erinsborough. When, later that day, Stretch called to tell Jeffrey that the water pump had arrived, he was upset and admitted that it had been nice having some new, interesting people to talk to, so Karl and Susan agreed to stay on and spend the remainder of their holiday on the farm.
