In June 2008, Jacob Brito took over the role of toddler Charlie Hoyland from Aaron Aulsebrook-Walker, when producers decided to increase interaction between Charlie and his screen mum Steph. Feeling that Aaron was too young to be given lines of his own, they increased Charlie's age from 2 to 4 and cast Jacob in the role. Jacob began filming in June 2008, appearing on screen for the first time four months later.
