Caroline Gillmer
Played: Cheryl Stark
Appeared: 1993-1996
After making guest appearances on various Australian television series in the late 1970s, Caroline Gillmer joined the cast of Prisoner Cell Block H in 1980, as Helen Smart, remaining a part of the
cast, on and off, until 1984.
Following further television and film roles, she joined Neighbours in 1993 as Cheryl Stark, initially in a guest role, but back as a regular by the end of the year. In 1995, Caroline fell ill, during a time Cheryl was to be a central figure in key
storylines. Producers felt they had no alternative but to temporarily recast her with another former Prisoner Cell Block H actress (and later regular Neighbours star) Colette Mann. Colette took on the role for 8 weeks.
In 1995, Caroline also starred in Hotel Sorrento, for which she was nominated for an AFI Award Best Actress in a Lead Role. The following year, Caroline filmed the pilot for a proposed sitcom spin-off of Neighbours called In Cheryl’s Arms.
The series was going to be produced by Ian Bradley but it failed to get the ‘greenlight’ and went no further. Caroline's character was killed off in Neighbours in 1996.
After Neighbours, Caroline continued to star in TV and theatre, in shows such as Good Guys, Bad Guys in 1998 and the theatre production of Chicago playing the role of Mama Morton.
Caroline was most recently seen as Judy Moran in Underbelly in 2008 and as Marg in Bed of Roses from 2008 to 2011.
