Hailing from Western Australia, 14-year-old Chelsea Jones began a performing career with ballet classes at the age of three. She continued to sing and dance, but as the years went on, she focused her efforts on acting, with roles in Foreign Exchange, The Sleepover Club, Streetsmartz and Stormworld. In addition, she appeared with Bud Tingwell in a short film entitled Hidden Creatures and on stage in The Sound of Music.

In mid-2008, Chelsea took part in Dolly magazine's second Neighbours' Next Big Star competition, getting down to the final two representing Western Australia, then winning the 6-week contract as Tegan, the spirited younger sister of Donna Freedman. After her initial contract was extended for another six weeks, Chelsea completed filming with Neighbours in December 2008.
