Daniel MacPherson
Played: Joel Samuels
Appeared: 1998-2002

Born April 25th in Sydney, Australia, growing up in Cronulla where he developed a keen interest in sports of all kinds. It was at the age of 17, whilst competing as a triathlete, that he was discovered by Neighbours casting director Jan Russ, and offered the role of Joel Samuels, also an aspiring athlete. During his four years in the role of Joel, Daniel became one of Neighbours’ most popular young actors, winning the 1999 Logie for Most Popular New Male Talent, and being nominated in 2001 for Most Popular Actor. Despite all this, he quit in late 2001 to pursue other roles.

In 2002, Daniel moved to the UK, where he quickly won a lead role in a touring production of Godspell, before spending two years as Australian PC Cameron Tait in police drama The Bill. In 2005, Daniel made his return to Australia, where he took on his first presenting job, hosting The X Factor, which only lasted for one season, as well as presenting Killer Sharks and Channel Ten’s New Year’s Eve broadcast. Returning to acting, he took on the role of Ned in Tripping Over, before being cast as Simon Joyner on crime drama City Homicide, currently airing its second series. It was announced in July 2008 that Daniel had won the coveted presenting job for the eighth season of Dancing With The Stars.
