Lina Marrocco Charity Worker
Lina Marrocco 2008
After being diagnosed with multiple sclerosis, Susan Kinski’s life changed, with her family constantly fussing, and she decided to look into taking part in a drug trial that might help control her symptoms when they flared up. Her husband, Dr Karl Kennedy, was particularly against the idea, so Susan brought home Lina, a fellow sufferer and member of her MS support group, who had raised over $147,000 towards MS research in the previous year and been awarded the Order of Australia for her efforts. Lina made Karl see that any glimmer of hope or progress was worth following up for an MS sufferer, and that both she and Susan were determined that the illness wouldn’t define them, or beat them.
Mother-of-two Lina Marrocco was diagnosed with relapsing-remitting multiple sclerosis in 2002, after initially thinking that her symptoms were indicating that she was pregnant again. She now works part-time in the Department of Justice, and is a founding member of Charityworks for MS, who spend a great deal of time fundraising for MS research, including the staging of biennial balls, which in 2007 raised $147,000. In 2008, Lina was awarded the Order of Australia for her charity work.
