Born August 3rd 1991 in Victoria, Mauricio Merino Jr began his acting career performing in school plays and local theatre productions, before moving on to short films and Victorian Education Movies. Having worked as an extra on shows including Neighbours, Mauricio scored his first television role on the Steven Spielberg and Tom Hanks co-production The Pacific. Other minor roles came in As The Bell Rings and The Elephant Princess.
Aged 17, Mauricio auditioned as part of the Dolly magazine Neighbours' Next Big Stars competition, reaching the final two Victorian entrants, and eventually winning the role of 16-year-old Simon, the reserved younger brother of Donna Freedman. After beginning filming in August on an initial six-week contract, Mauricio was signed up for a further six weeks and completed filming in December 2008, following which he began university.
