Michael Parkinson 2007

When Karl Kennedy and Susan Kinski were on holiday in London, they stopped to buy some postcards and, as Susan went to pay, Karl was stunned to find himself standing next to chat show host Michael Parkinson. Karl lavished praise on Parky, telling him what a great interviewer he was, before asking for his autograph. When Parky spotted the autograph of Pete Gartside in Karl’s guidebook, he mentioned that he wouldn’t mind interviewing him – or his Aussie mistress, and jokingly asked Karl if he could help him out, little realising that the mistress in question, Izzy Hoyland, had once been the other woman in Karl and Susan’s relationship and was now carrying Karl’s baby. As Parky bought his paper and walked off, telling Karl to give his regards to Dame Edna, Susan returned, disappointed to hear about the celebrity encounter she’d missed out on.

Born 28th March 1935, British journalist and television host Michael Parkinson CBE has been presenting his chat show, Parkinson on and off since 1971, featuring interviews with over 1000 celebrities. He began his career as a journalist on local newspapers in Yorkshire, before moving up to the Manchester Guardian, then the Daily Express. In the 1960s, he moved into current affairs television, hosting a film review series before the launch of Parkinson. He has also hosted gameshows Give Us A Clue and Going For A Song, written his own range of children’s books, presented TV-AM, Desert Island Discs and his own Radio 2 Sunday show, and, in 2000, was presented with a CBE.
