Actor, Cameo & Crew Profiles > Cameo Profiles > Lynne Randell Personal Assistant

Lynne Randell 1986

When school bitch Sue Parker wanted revenge on Mike Young and Scott Robinson, she called the Robinson house, claiming to be Lynne Randell, assistant to talent spotter Molly Meldrum. She explained that Molly had heard the song ‘I Believe’, written by Mike and Scott, and wanted to meet up with them. However, when the boys arrived at Molly’s house the next day, neither he nor Lynne had heard of them and they realised that someone had played an elaborate practical joke. But Molly and Lynne agreed to listen to their tape and were both impressed with the song, later playing it to record producer Brian Hansen. In the meantime, Scott and Mike had found out that Sue was behind the cruel trick so, when Lynne phoned later that evening, wanting to schedule another meeting, Scott told her to rack off. In the end, Brian Hansen went to Ramsay Street to meet the young songwriters, but they were in for a disappointment when he admitted that he was only interested in signing up Scott’s girlfriend Charlene Mitchell, who had acted as backing singer on the song.

As a teenager, Lynne Randell rose to fame across Australia with her hit, Ciao Baby. This led to US tours with the likes of The Monkees, Jimi Hendrix and Tina Turner, and later, to becoming a music journalist for magazines such as Go-Set. After returning to Australia, she became personal assistant to well-known music celebrity Molly Meldrum, before going on to be P.A. to head of Shire Records Seymour Stein in the late 80s. Lynne died at the age of 57 in June 2007.
