Born in 1983, Nicky Whelan started her career in the entertainment industry in 2000, as a model, appearing in publications such as Inside Sport and Ralph, even being voted Inside Sport's 'Model of the Year in 2004.

Nicky worked as full-time model for five years but sought to break into television. Her first oppertunity came when she became a TV host for Nickelodeon for two weeks, as part of a competition to find a new presenter. After a viewer vote, Nicky came joint first. However she found herself unable to take the job due to previous work commitments. She continued her presenting work, becoming a regular co-host for travel and lifestyle series Coxy's Big Break and has for the last five years, hosted the Night Racing At Moonee Valley. She also hosted women's magazine show, Melbourne Woman.

In 2004, Nicky began to move from presenting to acting, playing Chrissie Grant in Russell Coight's Celebrity Challenge. Her breakthrough role as an actress came in 2006, when she won the role of Heidi 'Pepper' Steiger in Neighbours.

In July 2007, exactly one year after joining the Neighbours cast, Nicky Whelan announced that she was leaving, after cutting her contract short, and filmed her final scenes the following week. Nicky then planned to look for work in Hollywood thanks to her connections with comedian David Spade, but has since returned to Australia.
