Jo Whiley Radio DJ
Jo Whiley 2007
During their holiday in London, Susan Kinski and Karl Kennedy were shocked to cross paths with the infamous Izzy Hoyland, who had once upon a time turned their lives upside-down before disappearing from Erinsborough, carrying Karl’s baby. As a compassionate Susan realised that Izzy was now on her own again, after splitting from boyfriend Pete Gartside, she offered to call him and try to sort the whole mess out, taking a serviette from one of the other diners (Jo Whiley) at the café, on which to write Peter’s number.
Born July 4th 1965, Johanne ‘Jo’ Whiley is best known in the UK as a DJ on the BBC’s Radio 1. Born in Northampton, Jo studied applied languages at university, before taking a job with BBC Radio Sussex, which led to a journalism course and jobs with Radio 4 and television series The Word as a researcher. In September 1993, Jo joined Radio 1, where she presented weekday show The Evening Session, while in February of 1997, she took over the lunchtime slot with what became The Lunchtime Social, and she now presents the station’s mid-morning show. In May 1998, Jo was crowned DJ of the Year at the Sony Radio Awards, and has presented her own late-night music show for Channel Four, as well as appearing as judge on their MobileAct Unsigned. Jo has been married to Virgin Records executive Steve Morton since 1991 and the couple have three children, India, Jude and Cassius.
