The Wiggles Childrens' Entertainers
The Wiggles 2001
Children’s entertainers The Wiggles came to Erinsborough to appear at the local fair. Since young Ramsay Street resident Lolly Carpenter was at the centre of a custody battle between her adoptive father Lou, and her biological father, John Allen, it was agreed that Lou’s friend Drew Kirk would take Lolly to the fair to take her mind off things. Once the show had finished, Lolly spoke to the Wiggles and told them that her friend, Emily Hancock, had wanted to come but was at home with toothache. The Wiggles, therefore, decided that they would have to go to Ramsay Street to visit her but, when they got there, they ended up first crashing the joint 18th birthday party being thrown for Tad Reeves and Paul McClain. Eventually, they were pointed in the direction of the Hancock house, where a delighted Emily was treated to an impromptu concert of their songs.
Four-piece children’s entertainers the Wiggles – Greg, Anthony, Murray and Jeff – began performing at pre-schools in the early 90s, with their first CD being released in 1991, with a tv series and videos following. They started touring outside of Australia, and found particular success in the United States, in the mid 90s and, soon after, signed a deal with The Walt Disney Company. Other famous characters to have been produced by The Wiggles and their series include Dorothy the Dinosaur and Captain Feathersword, and in 2004, the group were reported to be worth an estimated AU$45 million.
