Concluding many of the drama seeds sewn last week, the residents faced up to the consequences of their actions on many levels in these five episodes…

Carmella’s hysterical reaction whilst away in the country came to a rather weak end as a pointless ten minute car chase through the bush (with Connor on a vintage motorbike) resulted in nothing but another Carmella crying scene. As much as one might sympathise with the character having gone through so much during the last few weeks, it’s a shame that Natalie Blair’s work as Carmella isn’t being fully appreciated, because she is very much a guest character. As such it is difficult for viewers to engage with her on any level and feel the pathos that they might with a regular cast member.

Lyn decided she should tell Stephanie about Andy, to gauge her reaction, and despite being upset that it really signalled the fact that there was no hope of her and Joe being reconciled, Steph was ultimately OK with it. Later that week, Lyn went ‘public’ with Andy as they enjoyed a meal at Lassiter’s, much to Harold and Lou’s interest! Janelle’s relationship with her kids got no better and now it was Steph’s turn to try and make her see reason, and realise that Dylan wasn’t he bad influence she thought he was. The mother wasn’t convinced, but tried her best to make amends, and decided to max out her credit card on buying the boys their favourite bikes. But Dylan who had quickly moved up in the world wasn’t having any of it, and quickly saw through his mother’s attempts to buy their affections. Scott, meanwhile, was busy trying to find time and space to get closer to Serena, and they thought they’d found it when No.24 was empty for the day. However, David returning early was the beginning of their troubles as he walked in on the couple in bed. Furious with Scott for ‘leading his daughter astray’ he literally threw him out of the house and he landed on his arm on the balcony. When Janelle discovered that Scott’s arm was in fact broken as a result, she let out the air from David’s car tyres as a pay back – warning him never to mess with her family.

Councillor Bishop, meanwhile, was under more stress as his desire to earn money and get to the top, as it were, was putting more and more stress on Liljana. Things came to a head when a business meeting Lil had set up with local merchant, Dame Clarrie, turned into an opportunity for David to exploit her business connections, forcing Clarrie to close the deal with Lil. Livid with her husband for not only ruining her business connections but also doing it for his own gain, Liljana threatened to walk out on their marriage unless things improved fast.

Karl woke up from his state of unconsciousness to find Susan at his bedside, and despite Izzy’s attempts to get back in his good books, he was adamant they needed time apart. Indeed, Karl even suggested that Izzy spend more time with Paul so that she could better understand his business dealings and give Karl some ammunition with which to disarm Paul should the need arise. However, Paul was playing Izzy at her own game and made it clear she couldn’t blow hot and cold with him just because Karl didn’t want her now. He even left it up to her to negotiate problems with the builders in charge of Lassiter’s, much to her annoyance.

Over at No.30, Sindi continued to lap dance to try and earn the money for the reading machine, until Stuart revealed he knew that she was lying to him and made her confess. She promised not to go back to the club again, but that was until Stuart realised he could actually begin to make out some colours and movement before his eyes. Thrilled, he saw his consultant who confirmed that some sight was there, but the only real option to have proper vision again was a very expensive operation, with only a 50% success rate. Spurred on by this idea, Stuart decided to go back to work as a call handler at the police headquarters, but his first day back was full of mistakes and he panicked and struggled to understand the telephone system. Disheartened, he and Sindi contemplated how they would be able to earn the money needed for the operation.

Finally, Toadie and Eva Destruction enjoyed each other’s company, and they spent a balmy afternoon by the lake enjoying a picnic. Indeed, Toadie was, if anything, a little overwhelmed by Eva’s vivaciousness, and taken aback when they kissed whilst rolling around on top of each other… as you do… Although it’s great to see Toadie finding happiness with someone else, it is a shame that it comes as a package with the wrestling storyline which has done little to grab viewers’ imaginations!

Notes: Connor’s Hyundai Getz motor car appeared to have changed colour mid-week following the country break. Surely Carmella didn’t scratch it that much during the forest chase?
