It was a week of high emotions for all of the residents of Ramsay Street…

As if she hadn’t been involved in enough accidents lately, Sindi added another to the list when Susan came home and announced plans to move to Shepparton. Moments later, in the kitchen, Susan went head first into a door as Sindi was opening it. Convinced that she was jinxed, following the earlier accidents with Lil and Janae, Sindi decided that something had to be done about it all and called in her hypnotherapist, Byron Wolfe. Stuart was extremely sceptical, but Byron insisted that the process might reveal the real reason behind all of Sindi’s problems and insecurities. Midway through the session, Sindi suddenly began to remember a painful memory from her past and started screaming, leaving Stuart concerned. Sindi’s last memory had been of being at her Aunt Enid’s house, Although Stu attempted to find out more by visiting the house, he drew a blank and Sindi seemed unwilling to remember any more details. However, as she began to have nightmares about it, she finally explained the whole thing to Stuart: during a game of hide and seek as a child, she’d become trapped in a cupboard and thought she was being attacked. Her attacker, however, was actually a fur coat. Embarrassed, but relieved to have finally got it out of her system, Sindi accompanied Stu down to the pub where he’d been taking part in a pool competition. She decided there and then that his devotion to her during her recent troubles was exactly what she wanted in a boyfriend and so, she got down on one knee and proposed. If you ignore the dramatic changes in Sindi’s personality since last year, this is proving to be quite an intriguing storyline. These changes (which I’ll ignore in a moment) are certainly believable, given the problems Sindi’s had in the past six months and the way she’s handled them, through astrology and hypnotism, are undeniably in keeping with the character.

Having survived the horse riding accident unscathed, Bobby was the hero of the hour and it wasn’t long before he was back to his two-timing ways. As Bobby attempted to juggle several women at once, he managed to palm most of them off when he gave Summer his mobile phone and a list of names and excuses. However, it wasn’t so easy to get rid of Susan and Lyn, who were both concerned for Bobby following his fall and wanted to spend a little time with him. As he only just managed to prevent both women from seeing each other, he soon had other issues to contend with, as Izzy became increasingly concerned that her dad was about to do another runner. She even offered him money to stay and set up his own business. As he was thinking over the offer, a group of Japanese businessmen gave Bobby the idea to start up his own tour company, showing some of the locals sights and sounds that were distinctly off the beaten track. The character of Bobby has brought a lot to the show, giving an insight into Max and Izzy’s past and why each of them turned out the way they did. His exploits with the local women have also provided a clever little storyline, if something of a soap cliché.

Bree took another step towards the national spelling bee this week, but Janelle’s interference finally proved to be too much. As Bree lied to her mum to get rid of her for the afternoon, she managed to get some time on her own to practice without the added pressure. Luckily for Bree, Janelle’s attention was all on Stingray, who had just split up with Serena due to her apparent feelings for Boyd. The next morning, Stingray, Bree and Summer were forced to come up with a plan to keep Janelle away from the school long enough for the youngest Timmins to win the spelling bee. First up, Stingray faked being ill to get his mum’s attention but when that plan failed, he managed to hide the car keys, leaving Bree free to take the bus. However, halfway through the contest, Janelle arrived at the school, so Summer, as lookout, passed the message on to Stingray and the two of them quickly changed the sign to say that the spelling bee had moved to another venue. By the time Janelle had finally found her way inside Erinsborough High, it was all over and Bree had won, putting her through to the national finals in Canberra. However, as everyone congratulated her later on, Bree got a sudden attack of guilt and owned up to the whole stunt. Although Janelle put a brave face on it, she broke down in tears as soon as she got a moment alone. Like the rest of the family, Janelle is a complex character and this story has provided one of the few moments of real emotion from the woman. Hopefully, as she spends longer in Ramsay Street, we’ll get to see more of her layers and the reasons behind her brash exterior.

When the local council accepted a tender from Affirmacon to build a megamall, everyone began to wonder if Paul had been stringing them along for months. Dylan tried to stay loyal to his boss, but when he admitted that he risked developing cancer due to his attempts to save animals in the wetlands, Paul had a sudden attack of the guilts. He decided to double cross Affirmacon and give Dylan a key card for their offices, telling him exactly where to find the evidence that would destroy the company’s plans. Dylan and Sky managed to track down the evidence and, in a moment of excitement where they were almost caught, they also shared their first kiss. Elsewhere, Paul was trying to convince Liljana that they should start a new life somewhere else, once their affair was public knowledge. She wasn’t sure, but put the idea to David that one day, she might want to go and live somewhere else. David became concerned that she wanted Serena to choose and told his daughter this, leaving Lil furious at the lies and accusations that were upsetting Serena. The next day, she told Paul that she needed to own up to everything and he agreed to find them a B&B in Sydney for the mother and daughter, where they could spend some time alone and talk things over. However, when she mentioned her plans to David, he panicked once more and, later that day, Lil was shocked to hear from Harold that David and Serena had gone away to the country for some time alone. The details of this story have obviously been very well planned out and, although many have questioned whether Lil would really walk out on David for Paul, it can’t be denied that Marcella Russo is giving everything to the role.

Elsewhere, Janae was desperate to avoid Karl’s questions as he began counselling her and Harold found out that Lou’s latest hobby, online gaming, was simply another way to make money by building his wizard up to become hugely powerful, then selling it on. Meanwhile, Toadie was finally tempted back into the wrestling ring as The Lawman when he became struggling Connor’s new tag team partner.
