Residents lost consciousness, regained consciousness, lost their cool... and regained their cool in a rollercoaster week.

Despite slipping under the water, Dylan and Sky managed to spot Paul’s body in the lake and he was rushed to hospital close to death. Needing a major operation for internal injuries, his dying wish was for Liljana to confirm that she loved him, which she granted despite her uneasiness over the whole situation. Upon waking after the operation, Paul discovered he was being investigated for defrauding the council and he had no choice but to confess all regarding Affirmacon. However, his troubles had only just started when doctors revealed his leg was too badly infected to be saved, and that an amputation was necessary. Paul was distraught. David, still holding a major grudge towards Paul, had Harold try to take his mind off things, especially his certainty that Liljana would soon return to the family. Harold wasn’t so sure.

Life at Erinsborough General wasn’t entirely focussed on Paul this week. In a quiet private room, Darcy lay in a coma, being attended to by his therapist. However, quite out of the blue he awoke, and lay quietly listening to the orderly complain about a convicted criminal being kept alive in a hospital. In true ‘take no s***’ Darcy fashion, he alerted staff to his consciousness by thumping the orderly in the groin. The next anyone else knew about his new living state was when he was wheeled through the hospital corridor in front of Karl, Susan and Izzy who were visiting Paul. Aunt and uncle were quite shocked to discover their nephew was seemingly alive and well, but Izzy’s spectacular fainting should almost have been enough to give away her secret! She immediately packed her bags and set off to leave Erinsborough, fearing Darcy would spill all. However, just as she reached the perimeter of the town Karl informed her over the phone that Darcy appeared to be suffering from amnesia and couldn’t remember a thing. Relieved, Izzy drove back home. To satisfy her curiousity, Izzy visited Darcy, assuming he was feigning the memory loss. But, he seemed to be genuinely unaware of who she was.

Sindi and Stuart’s relationship became more sinister this week too as Stuart discovered that Sindi had been making up grandiose stories about the way in which he proposed to her and telling a heap of white lies to her disabled friend, Kelly. Sindi’s justification was that Kelly had little quality of life at the hospice, and that making everyday events seem more over-the-top and colourful would make her happy. Things got more worrying though later in the week when Stuart revealed to his fiancée that he was in line for promotion at work, and that there was only one other candidate he was up against for the position. Imagine his shock the following day when the other candidate, Trent, was knocked off his bike in a hit and run incident. To make matters worse, the car involved was a navy blue Nissan Pulsar, the same car Sindi had borrowed off Susan the afternoon of the accident. Additionally, following her loan of the vehicle, Sindi had gone to great lengths to wash the car thoroughly, even scrubbing the number plates. Susan was also confused that she hadn’t noticed a large paint scuff on the side of her car before, despite Sindi confirming it was weeks old. Whether it was a huge coincidence or Sindi really is to blame remains to be seen.

Elsewhere in Erinsborough, Lyn had to pretend to be an admirer for Connor when he began to get depressed about getting no phonecalls after his TV appearance. The Hoylands finally pursudaded Kayla to come and stay with them after they discovered she had little food to eat and was still homeless – but despite Boyd’s concerns that the adoption could be jeopardised, Max was keen for Kayla to stay. And finally, Janelle’s credit card abuse got out of hand and when a debt collector arrived at the door, the Timmins family climbed over the back fence and headed off in their people mover. Janelle was furious at Lou for offering her the credit card in the first place, but he was quick to remind her that if she’d read the small print first she wouldn’t be in trouble. As it happened, the police pulled them over on the way to Canberra but only for a speeding offence. However, Janelle’s ability to make everyone think she’s hard done by enabled her to get away with just a warning, much to hers and girls’ delight!
