It wasn't just the water table that fell this week...

The biggest drama to emerge from Erinsborough this week was the continuing saga of Paul’s deception of the community over the rising water table. Having finally been convinced there could be truth in the suggestions that the whole community had been lied to, Harold commissioned a third and completely independent environmental investigation, which returned the results the whole street hoped for – that there was indeed no danger at all from rising water. Knowing his cover was blown and that Affirmacon would be after his blood, Paul aimed to set off for Sydney with Liljana that same afternoon. However, while she was having a quick shower at No.28, heavies from the corrupt development corporation knocked on the door and left Paul no choice but to be escorted away by them. In scenes more typical of a big budget drama, the misguided business man was taken into the depths of the Victorian countryside to be executed. However, he made one last dash for salvation and punched the chap holding him. He fled through the bush, losing his footing on several occasions. He was so close to safety until Liljana rang his mobile phone trying to find out where he was. Alerted to his hiding place, the heavies chased him through dense woodland, but in the confusion Paul ran straight to the edge of a cliff, lost his footing and fell.

Spotting him at the bottom of the ravine, the Affirmacon bullies assumed he had met death and left. It was only a few hours later that Paul regained consciousness and realised the severity of his injuries. His legs were broken, arms fractured and he experienced hallucinating images of Liljana in the bush. Managing to fashion a splint from tree branches, Paul hobbled through bushland towards the relative safety of a lake where he could drink and bathe his wounds. However, he lost his footing and was left floating on his splints in the water. Unbeknown to him, Sky and Dylan had set off for the wooded area in which Paul was injured, his abandoned car having been found by police earlier in the day. Although Sky wasn’t keen to be aiding Paul in any way after his deception, she felt she owed it to Dylan who had grown increasingly close to Mr Robinson. However, despite getting so close to his whereabouts, as Paul lost the will to live and slipped under the water, it seemed there was little hope he would be found alive. One could argue that since Paul’s latest return to Erinsborough, he was become increasingly wicked, more so than viewers were used to previously. Thus, his comeuppance at the hands of Affirmacon, though severe, can be seen some sort of retribution for his actions.

Aside from their search for Paul, Sky and Dylan had grown considerably closer, and Sky even accompanied Dylan to a classic car expo, despite Boyd suggesting she was putting on a deliberate act. Boyd’s relationship with Janae, meanwhile, was complex as they took Aikido lessons together and Janae in particular found it difficult to concentrate on anything but the young Hoyland! The rest of the family were having a tough time too, as Max and Stephanie’s adoption ambitions took a slightly complicated twist when young Kayla admitted she had no real place to live. Despite Max and Steph’s insistence she must live with them, even though that could jeopardise the adoption process, Kayla selflessly said no. Bobby, meanwhile, having been humiliated by the ‘Three Witches of Erinsborough’ decided to up sticks, and used money Izzy had given him to expand his tourist sightseeing enterprise to buy his way out of town. Quite by chance, Max spotted him about to leave and suggested that he wouldn’t be welcome back again. Having now met the elusive father Hoyland, it goes some way to explaining certainly Izzy’s character and her slightly neurotic tendencies.

Elsewhere on Ramsay Street, Janelle’s credit card seemed to bring her some happiness as she bought a brand new MPV car and the whole family took joy in making the sure the neighbours were well aware of their new-found ‘wealth’. However, Janelle became concerned when she found out Janae was still seeing Karl for counselling, despite the daughter’s assurances that everything was fine. Life at No.30 continued to be as hectic as ever, especially Toadie had some fun when Sindi let him in on a nightmare Connor had about him and Jarrod living together in years to come, all but married! Toadie knew this was perfect wind up material, and set about making Connor feel increasingly more uncomfortable around him! Scenes, which unusually for the ‘House of Trouser’, were genuinely entertaining! The same cannot be said for the brief resurgence in the wrestling plot which emerged mid-week In short, it was yet another attempt by the boys to flirt with a female associated in some way with wrestling.
