A paternity battle, an engagement party, another shocking crime and the development of a clandestine Ramsay Street romance took viewers through this week…

The big story of the week was still the issues surrounding baby Kerry Mangel, with Dylan now suddenly claiming to be her father, just because it ‘felt’ right when he touched her, throwing the whole of the Timmins clan into turmoil. While I liked this sudden twist in the storyline, and everything being turned on its head, I still felt that there should have been a better reason for Dylan to believe himself to be the father of Kerry rather than just because it felt like she was to him. However, despite that, it still made for interesting times on Ramsay Street, with the Timmins family being divided by this latest bombshell, and Karl quickly backtracking and admitting that there could have been a mix-up with the dates. Another thing I didn’t understand was why Karl received the blame for the mix-up and Sky was turned into some holy pariah who hadn’t done a thing wrong – she was the one who slept with both Timmins brothers, and now it seemed like she couldn’t take the consequences. After the moving episodes of last week, the dramas this week seemed to descend into petty squabbling and had far less effect than they could have done, yet viewers were left on one hell of a cliffhanger as Sky, Harold and the Timminses gathered to get the results from Karl…

Equally as big this week was the major development in the relationship between Steph and Toadie, with her reliance on him increasing to the point where she realised she couldn’t live without him, and after the pair had spent an evening out together, they shared a surprising kiss – which was witnessed by Boyd. Boyd’s return was also big news, with him being suddenly secretive about his time in Tasmania, and suspicious of Elle’s sudden charity towards the Hoyland family, convinced she had a reason for helping them. With Boyd suffering flashbacks to his time in Tasmania, receiving mysterious phone calls, feeling uncomfortable when around Janae and at first fuming over Steph and Toadie’s kiss, then agreeing that he could understand why it had happened, his behaviour was decidedly odd, and it wasn’t until the end of the week that we discovered why. During his time in Tasmania, Boyd had rescued a young woman from drowning, and had shared the rest of his time with her – romantically. When he confessed to his wife, Janae, understandably, was devastated. The Hoyland’s storylines were very good this week, perhaps the strongest point as Steph and Toadie’s kiss seemed to me very natural, not rushed, just the climax of two people very fond of each other spending a lot of time together, and it was nice to see the character of Steph happy again after all her traumas. It was also good to see Toadie given something to do and Ryan Moloney has really taken this dramatic storyline, his first since the departure of Sindi, and given it his all. I also love the twist in the love story of Janae and Boyd – at times very reminiscent of Scott and Charlene – as it is Boyd, the staid sensible one, who cracks and is unfaithful, and Janae’s heartbreak was conveyed to the audience beautifully.

Elsewhere in Ramsay Street, Carmella discovered how bad her scar was – it wasn’t really that bad, though it was conveyed as though it was awful – and those at No. 30 decided to raise the money so she could afford an operation. Given that they had known her for just a few weeks, I find that a little hard to believe, but then this is Neighbours, so I’ll suspend my disbelief. However, I’m not sure what this storyline is supposed to do to us as an audience. If anything, it only made me like Frazer more as he raised the money to help Carmella afford the operation. I was already a fan of Carmella, but making her so shocked at something that, to me, is so small, is turning me off.

Katya’s blackmail storyline continued apace, and she was driven to stealing Karl’s car, and assaulting Ned in a bid to get Guy his money. Couldn’t anyone else apart from Ned have been assaulted? Just more bad acting…

Pepper revealed the truth behind her engagement to Rosetta, then endured the engagement party from hell when Zeke declared his love for his teacher and encouraged her to admit that she really loved him. Why continue this ridiculous storyline?!

Finally, Paul returned from America, and Lyn feared he was planning to dump her due to his mysterious phone calls – could she be right?
