A dramatic shooting, the truth about baby Kerry’s father, a surprising engagement, a Big Brother style eviction is planned – and a dramatic secret unearthed. Just another regular week in Ramsay Street!

Hot this week was the climax of Katya’s blackmail storyline, which showed the character at her best as she determined to rid herself of Guy and the hold he had over her. Arranging to meet him one last time to ‘pay’ him off, she armed herself with a gun and set off for their clandestine meeting in some woods in the middle of nowhere. A tense confrontation ensued, and this really showed us the Katya I feel we should have seen from the beginning, fighting for what she loved the most – her family – and in a serious, do-or-die way, not bitching at Susan over custody of Rachel and Zeke. We were left with an amazing cliffhanger on Wednesday when Katya’s gun claimed a victim, and in tragic fashion it was Katya herself, who was soon shipped off to the hospital and the truth about her criminal past came tumbling out of the closet in timely fashion, devastating her family. This storyline has provided Dichen Lachman with some of her strongest performances, and as usual we saw stellar performances from Jackie Woodbourne and Alan Fletcher, who found themselves opposed in their determination to protect their stepchildren. While Susan didn’t want to believe the worst about Katya, Karl felt that Rachel and Zeke should be shielded from their sister’s crimes, while Guy still lurked out there…

The conclusion to the Kerry Mangel saga arrived when Karl revealed that Dylan was, in fact, her father, and not Stingray, and while allowing Sky to lay her ghosts to rest, it raised demons for Karl over ‘his’ mistake and Janelle vowed to sue him for every penny he had. Still, I don’t understand why Karl receives all the blame when surely it was Sky’s mistake in the first place? However, nice to see an end to this situation, with fresh new Ramsay Street rivalries cropping up, and what seems like the whole of the Street turning against Karl and Susan, whom we are used to seeing everyone love. As a viewer you really understand the threat to Karl’s livelihood, to the job he has worked so hard to protect, and the heartbreak this could cause him.

Elsewhere, Lyn’s fears that Paul was going to dump seemed to be proven right when a phone call to Flick in New York confirmed that Paul had been seen with another woman during his time there. However, as Lyn was about to walk out on Paul, he proposed marriage to her, delighting her. I know some people aren’t a fan of this coupling, but I love Lyn in this strong female role, fighting Paul, where it’s needed, and I hope she gets the happy ending she deserves. Also nice to see Steph give her blessing to the engagement.

A dark secret was unearthed from the past when Loris revealed to Harold the reason that the situation with Kerry had tortured her so much, as she felt karma had come round to get her back for what she had done not long after Bree’s birth; she was responsible for switching Anne and Bree! As a viewer I loved the storyline with Bree and Anne and this latest twist was fantastic. Loris is a brilliant character, and though her reason for switching the babies – because Janelle had annoyed her – was a little dodgy, she’ll be sorely missed as she goes to search for Anne. I hope she returns to Ramsay Street in 2007, to be reunited with Harold!

The truth about Frazer and Pepper’s relationship was revealed when, after he rejected her, she maliciously told Ned that the whole thing was a sham, invented to get them into the house. With Pepper and Rosetta wanting Frazer out, Ned insisted that the only way to sort things out would be to have a Big Brother style eviction, with each of the housemates voting who got to stay. I’m beginning to adore Frazer, and as he declared his love for Rosetta at the end of the week, I really believed he could grow as a character and develop into something really special.

Elsewhere, Harold helped Lou and Mishka to fake evidence of their romance having lasted through the years, Paul suspected he had met Will before after a brief encounter, Carmella did a U-turn and refused to have surgery on her face, then vengefully revealed Rosetta’s feelings for Will, and Steph and Toadie struggled to move on after their kiss and avoided one another.

All-in-all, a very dramatic and exciting week!
