Magic Moments > 2002 > The Hancocks' Departure Episode 3999

Written by Jeff Truman, Directed by Tony Osicka

Mal tells Harold that he's made an offer for the Coffee Shop, but Harold tells him to just get out. Maggie asks Evan if they're headed for a divorce, he tries to walk away, but she says if he doesn't confront this, their marriage will be over...

Evan tells Maggie he's angry because of her betrayal to their marriage vows. She insists that nothing happened with Toadie, but he says she discussed her feelings with Toadie and not him. He says she made all his feelings over Genevieve return and he destroyed any self-respect Evan had left by saying that Toadie made her feel alive. He says he was left feeling like he didn't cut it as a man. She says that now they can try to move on, but he says he isn't sure he wants to, he then walks out on her.

..

Mal is at the Coffee Shop taking notes on the contents of the shop. Harold tells him he should wait until the take-over is confirmed, but Mal says it's fairly inevitable. Mal tells Harold about the potential of the shop, but Harold asks him to leave. Mal tells him he might as well not bother fighting it.

..

At the Scully house, Michelle and Connor are arguing over the washing up. Joe watches as they start throwing suds at each other and tells them to keep the noise down. Connor goes to dry off and Joe asks Michelle what was going on. She says it was nothing. Michelle asks Joe when Connor's job on the site is starting, but Joe wants to know exactly what's going on.

The Hancocks are packing up and Matt asks his dad if he's patched things up with Maggie. Evan soon changes the subject, saying they'll need some glasses and plates for the farewell party. They talk about the meeting with the QC and Evan tells Matt that the money doesn't matter. Leo then asks Maggie if she and Evan will stay together if he and Emily promise to be good. Maggie hugs them.

..

At the Coffee Shop, Connor is telling Michelle about his recipe for Irish stew, but she looks fairly disgusted. He tells her he's a bit strapped for cash, so she shows him that she's been looking through the paper and has circled some jobs he might be interested in. Harold walks in and Rosie tells him she's noticed that Michelle has quite a crush on Connor. Harold says he hadn't noticed. Joe comes in and asks what Michelle's up to now, and Harold points out that Michelle and Connor seem to be getting on quite well.

..

At number 32, Emily is having a tea party with Bob and Audrey. Matt tells her that Audrey has to stay with Drew and Libby and Emily says she knows, but she wants to say goodbye to them. She then makes Bob promise to look after Audrey.

..

Rosie is disgusted as Harold tells her about Mal's plans for the Coffee Shop. Lou comes in and Harold asks his advice on how to survive a hostile take-over. Lou says he should roast them on a spit, and Rosie says it's true, he should defend himself and show them that he's no walk-over.

Michelle is at home counting her money and Joe asks if she's getting ready for a splurge, but she says she isn't. He asks her if she's going to the Hancocks farewell party, as Lyn, Steph and Flick are shopping in the city. He tells her there's a pizza in the freezer and asks her to try and get along with Connor.

..

Evan, Matt and Leo are still packing and Evan is complaining about Maggie's labelling system, but Leo says it's not her fault. Matt goes into the kitchen, and Leo asks Evan if he'll let Maggie stay. Maggie then comes in and says she can't find Emily, so they all go outside to look.

Out on the street, they spot her doll in the driveway of number 24 and they run up there to see Emily saying goodbye to Madge. She asks Madge to look after Bob and Audrey and says that she wishes her mum and dad would stop fighting and that everything would go back to how it was before. Maggie asks Evan what they are doing to their little girl.

..

Michelle is preparing a candle-lit dinner for her and Connor when he comes in and asks for tape, as he has to put up some posters for Mal. She asks if he'll be home for dinner and he says he'll be there with bells on.

Evan says he'd like to use disposable plates all the time, even though it's environmentally unsound, he can't be politically correct all the time. Matt asks if Emily was ok, and he tells him about Madge. Matt promises that he'll pay the money back, but Evan says the important thing is to make the most of the future. Maggie listens in on their conversation.

..

Michelle comes into the kitchen, all dressed up and is surprised to find Joe has come home, as his taxi has broken down. She is surprised to find them cooking a stew and doing some male bonding.

..

Evan is looking for his keys and Maggie comes in and finds them for him. He says he has to go and get some ice, but she says they have to talk. She says that she wishes that she could take back what's happened and she begs for his forgiveness. The kids appear from the kitchen and Leo tells Evan to give Maggie a kiss.

..

..

Lou arrives at the church to offer Rosie some silk flowers as his mate just received a whole batch of them. She says Harold's also on his way down. Lou asks if they can have a word in private, so she takes him into the vestry. She tells him not to shut the door, just as he closes it, and they're locked in. Meanwhile, outside, the silk flowers have caught fire...

At number 32, Joe is telling Mal that he's available for any work that needs doing, while Michelle asks him if he's found a tenant for the house, as Connor is looking. Joe asks Michelle why she wants rid of Connor, so she agrees to go easy on him.

..

At the church, the fire is beginning to spread. Rosie asks Lou what he wanted to talk about and he leans in for a kiss.

Mal tries to talk to Harold, but he says he has a duty to his friends at the moment. Evan asks if everyone could just listen for a minute, while they give a short speech. Maggie says that she's sure they've made some good friends over the past year in Ramsay Street. Evan says that it's been great to meet them all and hopes they can stay in touch. He then goes on to publicly thank Maggie and makes a toast to her and to new beginnings.

..

Meanwhile, the church continues to burn...
