Written by Faith McKinnon, Directed by Gary Conway, Produced by Jason Herbison

Channel Eleven: 11/03/15, Channel 5: 25/03/15

Sheila and Susan plan to battle it out in the festival bake-off, the prize being a trip to London... Naomi has booked a new judge for the bake-off, but can’t tell Mark who it is... Tyler tells Paige he won’t play second fiddle to his big brother... Mark is surprised to learn about Matt’s so-called back-pay from Lauren... Mark spies on Matt and Dimato, and sees Matt accepting another bribe from the crook...

Outside Dimato’s lock up, Matt is walking away with his money, when Mark stops him. He says that he’s just seen him with Dimato, and asks Matt what’s in the envelope - Matt remains silent.

..

At the Lassiter’s Complex, Nate and Tyler are chatting about their basketball game earlier. Nate asks if ‘that bloke’ was giving Tyler a hard time, “What bloke?” Tyler says. Nate reminds Tyler about the guy that was giving him a hard time outside of Grease Monkeys but Tyler claims he was just cranky about the ball coming over to his shop. They come across Paige doing press-ups in the park. Nate quickly notices, from the look on Tyler’s face, that ‘woman troubles’ are getting him down, but reminds Tyler that Paige dated Mark. Tyler plays down his own interest in her, explaining that he and Paige only kissed once. The boys interrupt Paige’s workout routine, and she greets them awkwardly, declining their invitation to attend the bake-off. She tells them she might come later if she has time.

Preparations for the bake-off are underway at Off Air. Addressing Susan, Sheila says “Wise choice, not going with the coconut cream pie.” “What is wrong with my coconut cream pie?” is Susan’s reply. “How long have you got?” Sheila remarks, and just then Karl arrives with his own entry – ‘the famous Kennedy sponge-cake’. Georgia points out that it looks like a trifle and Karl explains that it didn’t quite turn out how he'd hoped. The entrants speculate over who the mystery judge of the bake-off will be; Sheila says that Naomi won’t even tell her, due to the judge’s high profile. However Sheila is determined to win the prize, a trip to London, saying she’s always dreamed of afternoon tea at The Ritz. Susan reminds her not to start packing her bags yet, as the competition has just begun. Susan says to Karl "It’d be so nice to see Mal and Catherine before the baby comes." “I know, and now we’ve doubled our chances!” Karl replies. Susan looks disdainfully at Karl’s ‘trifle’, and tells him to put it next to Brad’s ‘butterfly kiss cake’. Toadie then arrives with another cake, and Sheila asks if he made it – but a familiar voice claims the credit. "Janelle!!" Susan says. "Susie Q, as I live and breathe!" is Janelle's reply. They hug and Susan asks what Janelle is doing here. Janelle explains she was visiting Toadie’s parents, Angie and Big Kev, in Colac, and when she heard about the festival and bake-off, she thought she’d drop in! Karl warmly says to Janelle "Well, welcome back!" "Thanks, Dr K, it’s good to be back!" she replies, and she gives Karl a hug.

At Dimato's container yard, an ashamed Matt has been telling Mark the full story about his criminal association. Mark is already in full-on judging mode, but Matt argues he didn’t know he was working for Dimato at first – and that he quit when he found out. He only went back after the family lost all their money, so they didn’t lose their house too. Mark says to Matt "It wasn’t the only way." "Alright! It was the easier way! And I promised myself this would only be once." Mark asks how much is in the envelope but Matt doesn’t know, he tells Mark that Dimato previously gave him $10,000, to look the other way when he found out about the car-stripping operation. Mark asks Matt how he got caught up in this and tells him he can't ignore something like this. Matt tells Mark that he understands but asks if he can tell Lauren himself as she deserves to hear the truth from him.

Back at Off Air, Karl and Susan are catching up with Janelle - she confirms she’s still with Allan Steiger and adds "Of course, we’ve had our rough patches, but doesn’t every couple? I mean, you two know all about that, eh? Oh, don’t look so awkward! It's obvious love is still in the air, and I know exactly what’s keeping it alive!" "You do?!" Susan replies alarmingly and from the look on her face, Susan suspects that Janelle is referring to the Blue Box! But instead says… "Nothing like a bit of EM Williams to spice up a tired old marriage, eh? Worked a treat for me and Allan!" Karl asks Janelle how she knew about EM Williams and Janelle explains that Toadie told her. At this moment, Toadie escapes Karl’s wrath to get a coffee, and Georgia takes his seat. Janelle says to Karl "Oh, look at us, both famous racy writers, never thought me and you’d have so much in common!". Karl doesn’t look convinced! Sheila shows up and tells her ‘fellow bakers’ that the mystery judge has just checked in at the hotel, but that she still doesn’t know who it is. Janelle tells Karl that whoever it is, she is sure they’re gonna love his weird-looking trifle. Karl thanks Janelle but comments that he's trying not to get ahead of himself. Janelle, however, is convinced that he's in with a real chance, as his entry is better than a tired old upside-down cake and an average pecan pie. Janelle asks if they are both Susan's. "That is my pecan pie!" Sheila declares "Oh, right my mistake." Janelle replies. Sheila continues "And that pecan pie recipe has been in the Canning family for seventeen generations!" Janelle says to Sheila "And nobody ever said anything?! How odd!" Sheila stomps away in fury, while Susan gives Janelle a look.

At number 32, Matt comes home to find Lauren cleaning up. Lauren asks about work was but Matt does not answer, instead asking her to sit down for a minute – but Bailey comes in and interrupts. Bailey's still training for the fun run, and thanks Matt for helping him ‘get outside’ himself with the training – it’s just what he needed after everything that happened with the money. Once Bailey’s gone, Lauren says that Matt looks really tired and suggests he goes for a lie down. Matt again asks Lauren to sit down, and she asks if something has happened. Matt says to Lauren, "I just need you to know that I love you very much. And if I had my time again, I would take back what I’ve done in a heartbeat. I just want you to know that."Lauren tells Matt that he's scaring her and asks what’s going on...

Shortly afterwards, Lauren is in disbelief, she reminds Matt that he was always against taking bribes. He tells Lauren he had convinced himself it was the only way to avoid losing the house. She then asks why he didn’t come to her; they could have worked through it together. Matt tells Lauren that he was the one who got them into this debt and he wanted to be the one that got them out of it. Lauren can't understand how Matt could do anything like this as it goes against everything he stands for. Matt explains that he was desperate and he figured no-one would get hurt if he looked the other way just this once. She points out that he did that once in Mount Isa with Bailey, and reminds him how that turned out! Lauren wonders, now that Brennan knows, what will happen. Matt says that he'll turn himself in and do the right thing: plead guilty. Matt predicts a prison sentence will have to be served. He goes to comfort her, and tells her he’s sorry, but Lauren makes it clear that she doesn’t want him to touch her, and walks out of the room.

Back at Off Air, Paige enters to talk to Tyler, so Nate leaves them to it. Paige mentions to Tyler that he should catch up with Mark, as she ran into him before and he seemed cut up about something. Tyler says "Not that you’re interested in him, or anything", but Paige insists she and Mark are just friends, and she’s concerned that he was really upset. "Why’s that? His utensils drawer’s a little unkempt?" is Tyler’s sarcastic reply. Paige believes that Mark was worried about a work matter, all she knows is that it had something to do with Dennis Dimato, and the case having ‘hit quite close to home’. Tyler looks worried and promises to check on Mark, and Paige leaves.

Tyler arrives at number 24, and tells Mark that Paige saw him earlier and said that he seemed down. Mark insists he’s fine, adding that Paige shouldn’t have said anything. Tyler tries to talk Mark into thinking again about rejoining the police, commenting that no-one would think less of him for changing his mind and coming back to the garage. Mark doesn’t dismiss the suggestion outright, and Tyler leaves him to think about it.

Back at Off Air, Karl is randomly wearing a cravat, and Susan demands to know why! He’s evasive, and wanders off, leading Susan to tell Sheila that he must be hiding something. Janelle offers Susan a piece of her red velvet cake, but as Susan is leaning in to take a forkful, she sneezes all over the cake! "Susan Kennedy!! That was an outright act of sabotage!" says a horrified Janelle. "I’m sorry, it was an accident!" Susan replies. "I’ll give you an accident!" Janelle then picks up the nearest cake and flings it on the floor, thinking it's Susan’s but it turns out to be Sheila’s pecan pie! Exacting her own revenge, Sheila then throws what she thinks is one of Janelle’s cakes on the floor – at which Janelle smugly states that it wasn’t hers! Sheila desecrates an attractive-looking gateau and again Janelle states that it wasn’t hers. Karl asks Sheila what she is doing; Sheila points at Janelle and declares that she started it! Janelle says to everyone "Yeah, well if we’re gonna start pointing fingers - Susan Kennedy has a lot to answer for." Georgia tries to intervene as peacemaker, but in doing so she leans on the table and the entire display of cakes goes crashing to the ground! Everyone gasps, as Georgia apologises in horror. Amidst the chaos, the judge arrives – and it’s Matt Preston from MasterChef Australia. "Excuse me, is this the Erinsborough Bake-Off?" Matt asks. Everyone is shocked to see him, Sheila rushes to greet ‘Lord Matthew Preston’, introducing herself as ‘a local and beloved identity’ while Susan notices Karl fiddling smugly with his own cravat, and calls him ‘shameless’!. Matt tells a stunned Sheila that he loves a traditional bake-off, but comments that this is more like a traditional food-fight - he asks what happened. Sheila: “Jealousy!” Janelle: “Sabotage!” Susan: “Childishness!” Matt comments that competition is all well and good, but he wonders if there's anything left for him to taste. “Only if you’re willing to eat it off the floor!” Brad calls out. Just then, Karl says to Matt “Or out of a bowl!” Karl is clutching his trifle bowl to his chest, rushes over to present it to Matt Preston. "I love a trifle. And I love that cravat!" Matt declares. Karl goes to stroke Matt’s own cravat, but he’s told not to touch! All the other entrants look incredulous that Karl is now in pole position to win…

At number 24, Lauren comes round to see Mark, and he correctly guesses that Matt has told her the truth. Lauren says “My family won’t survive this. I won’t survive it.” Mark reassures Lauren that Matt’s sentence will be reduced as he’s turning himself in, but it’s cold comfort for Lauren. Lauren asks Mark if he can find a way to forget what he saw. However, Mark tells Lauren that if he does that he will be an accessory to the crime. Lauren reminds Mark that Matt is a good man, a good father and he has spent his whole life helping people, he had just lost his way. Mark agrees with Lauren but adds that he committed a crime. Lauren tells Mark that he made one stupid mistake and begs him, for the sake of her children, not to report him.

..

Paige is sitting outside Off Air, eating some cake, when Tyler comes to join her – happily telling her that Mark’s fine and that he might even quit the force. Paige teases Tyler for missing Mark at the garage, but he reminds her that she came to Erinsborough to be with her family, and so did he. Paige says to Tyler “You got me there. I didn’t really take you for the family type.” “Just like a classic sponge. I have many layers.” Tyler replies. “And if you say you’re also as sweet as a sponge, I might have to punch you in the face,” Paige declares. Tyler then thanks her for tipping him off about ‘Brennan’ being upset, and comments that she must really care about him. Paige insists Mark’s a nice guy, but they’ve both moved on. Tyler steals some of her cake, and when Paige is outraged, he goes to get her some more. Paige smiles as he leaves.

Inside, Terese comes to the microphone to introduce the results of the bake-off competition. She hands the microphone over to Matt Preston to announce the first-place result. “As all the other entries were deemed unfit for judging, the winner of the Erinsborough Festival Bake-Off, with his cravatelicious trifle, is Dr Karl Kennedy!” An unimpressed Susan moans to Sheila about how unfair it is that they’ve all been disqualified, while Karl proudly goes to the stage to receive his trophy and return ticket to London from Terese. Sheila says to Susan and Janelle: “A bowl of cream and cake winning a bake-off? It’s a joke!” Susan and Janelle agree. As Karl makes a flattering speech to impress Matt Preston, Susan suggests that she, Sheila and Janelle should go over to Harold’s Store for some real cake, before Janelle has to leave. The three of them walk off to do just that! But as they’re leaving, Terese announces that Sheila, Susan and Janelle have won the ‘People’s Choice’ bake-off award, in a three-way tie! They all hug and celebrate.

..

..

Back outside, Paige is enjoying her new slice of Brad’s butterfly kiss cake, some of which was spared from the cake carnage by Tyler. He’s being very flirtatious, and seems gradually to be winning Paige round. They move from the kiss cake to talking about real kisses, and Tyler claims he’s an expert kiss-rater. Paige’s was pretty average, he jokingly implies, but eventually rates her nine – whereas she only gives him seven. Tyler tells Paige that he demands a rematch; Paige declines and tells Tyler that these things have to happen naturally. “Like this,” Tyler says and leans in to kiss her. Paige says to Tyler, “Maybe an eight? But I think you could do better.” They fall into a longer kiss.

At number 32, Matt and Lauren are just about to set off for the police station, so he can hand himself in, when Mark shows up with a proposition for them. He tells them that he’ll keep quiet about Matt’s criminality, on two conditions – firstly, that he take six months off on long-service leave, and secondly, that he tell Mark everything he knows about Dimato’s car-stealing operations, so Mark can use that to help build a case against Dimato. Mark explains that if the police charge Dimato and it comes to court, he’ll try to keep Matt out of it - but if his testimony is essential to getting Dimato put away, Matt will have to confess to his involvement. However, at the moment he will get time to spend with his family. When asked if he’s comfortable with Matt potentially getting away scot-free, Mark replies that Dimato is the real bad guy in all this and he wants him stopped. Mark says to Matt “So if you can help me bring him down, I’m prepared to look the other way.” Matt thanks Mark.

..

Back at Off Air, Paige and Tyler’s kiss is getting steamier. He starts kissing her neck. "Oh, Brennan!" Paige says. Tyler stops. “What?!" he says. A shocked Paige looks at Tyler, who asks “What did you just say?” Paige looks awkward.
