Written by Melanie Sano, Directed by Tony Osicka, Produced by Natalie Mandel

Channel Eleven: 31/12/18, Channel 5: 31/12/18

Gary realises where the solar inventors are from, and then tries to cover up for the break in... Gary tells Kev that he doesn't want to work for him anymore... Xanthe admits her worries to Piper about accepting her university place and not being able to pay back Gary... Elly realises that her wedding vows may have upset Chloe... Chloe worries that she will never find someone special... Elly reads a card from Chloe that professes her love for her...

Outside no. 24, Chloe pleads with Elly to forget what she saw on the card, but Elly is confused and asks Chloe why she told her that the kiss they shared didn't mean anything. Chloe tries to defend her position by saying that as Elly isn't into women the kiss was irrelevant, but Elly struggles to believe this. Having asked Chloe to be involved in the wedding preparations for her marriage to Mark, Elly is now feeling ashamed having read her wedding vows in front of her, considering the feelings Chloe professed on the card, but Chloe assures her that she wouldn't have known the depth of her feelings. She informs Elly that she still wants to be a part of the wedding preparations and jokes that knowing her history she will probably be over her by next week. Feeling reassured at the idea that they can get things back to normal, they both agree to forget this happened, including not telling Mark, as Elly returns the card to Chloe. Chloe admits that she wishes she'd torn up the card when Liz returned it to her, but this leaves Elly perplexed, wondering what part her mum played in this.

..

Over at no. 26, Xanthe reveals her university offer to Gary, who becomes saddened that his 'princess' will be leaving to fulfil her dreams of becoming a doctor. Despite the excitement of the offer Xanthe admits that she is still debating whether to accept, concerned that she will struggle with the intensity of the course without her family's support. She also admits that money is an issue, worried that she will be unable to live away from home due to the cost. Gary assures her that he isn't going to let her give up on her dream of becoming a doctor when she has worked so hard to secure a place.

An angry Elly storms into no. 28 and confronts Liz about reading her mail, particularly as it took Chloe a lot of courage to write what she did. Liz defends her position and tells Elly that she was worried about Chloe trying to sabotage her upcoming wedding, but Elly clarifies that Chloe was only trying to explain her feelings, not ruin things between her and Mark. After her chat with Chloe earlier at no. 24 Elly informs Liz that this is a very difficult time for her, but despite this Liz is adamant that Chloe is in the wrong and shocks Elly by telling her that Chloe doesn't have a future and she should stop defending her. Astounded by this outburst, Elly angrily tells Liz that she is a cruel person for saying this, and then once again argues that Chloe wasn't setting out to sabotage her relationship. She tells Liz that from now on she doesn't want any help or advice from her about anything.

..

At the Waterhole, Sheila is worried about Xanthe and she asks Gary if she could give her something out of her wages to help her with the rent. Amy also offers some financial help, but Gary rejects the offer and assures her that they will be able to sort the issue out between them. As they continue to talk Gary receives a text from Kev with details of another job. Realising that something is going on Sheila ushers Amy out of the Waterhole and asks Gary what he is still doing working with that 'ratbag', having assumed that he had cut all ties with him. Gary agrees and assures her that he will tell Kev to back off.

Over at no. 26, Hogmanay preparations are underway as Xanthe, Piper and Yashvi plan on going out to celebrate, although Piper isn't keen on Shane's beer and wants to keep a clear head for her vlog session at Harold's. She is planning on setting up a booth so that she can film people disclosing their New Year's resolutions and then posting the videos back to them a year later. Meanwhile Xanthe is still feeling anxious about her money issues and confesses to Yashvi and Piper that she needs to start taking more responsibility now that she is an adult.

..

Gary is just about to lock up the Coffee Hut for the night when he receives a visitor - Kev, who is unimpressed when Gary tells him he doesn't want to be involved in his duplicitous schemes anymore. Despite Kev's warning that he can't walk away once he is part of the gang, Gary once again informs him he wants out and doesn't heed KevŐs warnings about the 'big mistake' he is making.

At no. 28, Mark complements Elly on the dress she is wearing for the Hogmanay celebrations whilst Liz tries to mend some fences by being supportive of her and Mark, however Elly continues to give her the cold shoulder. Unaware of Elly's reluctance at spending time with her mum, Mark invites Liz to join them at the complex rather than being at home alone, however Liz assumes that Elly will not be happy about this. Her suspicions are proven correct as Elly tells her mum she doesn't want her to join them and leaves with Mark. Liz looks sad as she settles down for a night in front of the TV.

..

Having made their way to Harold's, Piper and Xanthe warn Yashvi about decanting Shane's strong beer into her water bottle. Despite this Yashvi tells them that she won't be joining them at the Waterhole for their Hogmanay celebrations as she is going to a community picnic with her football teammates and is sure that her alcohol refreshments will be a great idea. Meanwhile Xanthe receives a video call from Ben, who proposes that if she is still keen on going to university, he knows of a job available at a healthcare facility near to his garage as the employer is a client of his, the only hitch being that it starts next week. Although understanding of her worry about the short notice of the position, Ben tells her that the employer is keen to meet her. Xanthe is surprised that Ben is being so helpful, and he admits that it would be nice to hang out with her again if she was nearby; he promises to text her the number of the employer before ending the call. Although feeling a bit overwhelmed Xanthe is supported by Yashvi and Piper, who both declare that this is great news as it will further her career prospects, help with her money worries and allow her to be closer to Ben. Thanks to their encouragement, Xanthe agrees that this is a good opportunity as her apprehension turns to excitement.

At the Waterhole, the Hogmanay celebrations are fully underway as a happy Gary and Sheila are delighted at the support Ben is offering to help Xanthe. They are feeling slightly bittersweet at the thought of her moving away but Gary tells her that they couldn't be prouder of her. As they raise a toast to Xanthe Shane comes over, informing Sheila that they have run out of coffee. A happy Gary offers to go over to the Coffee Hut to replenish the Waterhole's stocks.

..

Whilst Yashvi and her football friends are having fun outside, Gary notices that the padlock for the Coffee Hut has been tampered with as he tentatively opens the door. He finds that the hut is full of the stolen solar invertors and, looking worried, quickly shuts the hut door and rushes back to the Waterhole with the coffee.

Back at the Waterhole, Yashvi has run out of her secret stash of Shane's beer which she has been sharing with her friends, and hurries back inside to get a fresh supply. She puts a bottle of the beer in her bag whilst opening another and drinking some, before making her way over to Xanthe and Piper. Despite Xanthe's concern about the amount of alcohol Yashvi is consuming she tells them that she won't be slowing down. Elsewhere a concerned Gary divulges to Sheila what he found in the Coffee Hut, and she insists that he move the solar invertors before the police find out. Having already bumped into Elly, Chloe, Mark and Aaron on his way back to the Waterhole Gary explains to Sheila that it won't be easy to move the invertors with people milling around the complex, but Sheila again reminds him of the consequences of getting caught. A sudden thought comes to Sheila; she suggests to Gary that he waits until midnight to move the invertors, as everyone will be at the fireworks, but Gary is feeling anxious and wants to do something now. Sheila tells him that for now he needs to cross his fingers and hope that the police don't come knocking.

..

Outside the Waterhole, Yashvi is still drinking copious amounts of Shane's beer, informing Xanthe and Piper that this will be the last time they can party as an excuse to get drunk together before they go their separate ways. Having made up her mind about moving away to study thanks to Ben's intervention, Xanthe suggests to Piper that she take up a university place so that they can study together. Piper is reluctant however, having seemingly gone off the idea of further education. As they continue to chat, they notice Yashvi looking worse for wear and advise her to ease up on the alcohol intake, but Yashvi is adamant that she hasn't had that much. She stumbles over some furniture as she makes her way back indoors, leaving Piper and Xanthe looking concerned.

At Harold's, Piper's new year resolution vlog session is underway as various residents divulge their thoughts and resolutions for 2019. Aaron wants to worry less about the little things in life and appreciate what he has now, both Elly and Mark would like their respective jobs back as well as looking forward to a blissful married life together, whilst Chloe is focused on the here and now and how she can be a better sister and a better friend, her mind clearly on her conversation with Elly from earlier and worries about her ongoing medical condition. She looks circumspect as she concludes her entry in the blog.

..

Shane is busily cleaning up a mess at the Waterhole as it becomes apparent that Yashvi's heavy drinking has caught up with her. After watching Shane clean up the bar Elly, Aaron, Chloe and Mark reminisce with their own stories about times when they were drunk, leaving Mark feeling pleased that his party days are behind him. Elly agrees that she cannot wait until they are a boring old married couple and as they share a kiss Chloe looks on awkwardly, not knowing what to do. Meanwhile Gary is chatting with Amy and Shane about Yashvi's antics, but notices Kev walking into the Waterhole and hurries off, lying to Amy that he needs to check on something that he's left at the Coffee Hut.

Back at Harold's, Liz asks Dipi if she has mentioned the tarot card reading to anyone, but Dipi tells her that she hasn't but itŐs still on her mind. Dipi is worried as she is sure based on past experiences that the tarot card reading is fairly accurate and admits that seeing such an ominous sign is terrible. As Liz leaves Dipi goes over to see Sonya, asking her how Hugo's birthday party went. Sonya tells her that it went very well but Hugo is now in a deep sleep at home with Toadie, allowing Sonya to go out and enjoy the celebrations. As they continue to chat a heavily intoxicated Yashvi is brought into Harold's by Piper and Xanthe, Shane having thought it was a good idea for Yashvi to be with her mum. Dipi isn't impressed at the state that her daughter is in, but Yashvi insists that she feels fine, as Xanthe and Piper head off back to the Waterhole.

..

At the Waterhole, Shane is surprised to hear that his beer is of a higher strength than he brewed as Chloe comes over to purchase another bottle. As Chloe sits at the bar Elly sidles over to see if she is okay, but Chloe admits the truth, informing her that she is struggling to see her in a relationship with Mark. Despite telling her earlier that she was handling things, Chloe reveals to Elly that she has never been on the end of a one-sided love situation and is struggling to cope with it. She goes on to explain to Elly that due to these unrequited feelings she is unable to be the bridesmaid at her wedding, even though the wedding itself is three months away. As Elly tries to digest this news Shane reveals to the crowd at the Waterhole that it is almost midnight, and everyone starts counting down the final 10 seconds of 2018. An upset Chloe pleads with Elly to rejoin Mark and Aaron to see in the new year, but Elly struggles to do so due to her worries about Chloe's state of mind. Mark comes over and, not reading the tension between Chloe and Elly, pulls Elly towards him as the clock strikes midnight. They hug each other as the fireworks begin and the crowd starts singing 'Auld Lang Syne'.

Due to Yashvi's condition both Dipi and Yashvi miss the New Year bells as they head out of the bathroom at Harold's. An unhappy Dipi lectures Yashvi that she shouldn't have been drinking so much, but Yashvi tries to defend herself and inadvertently reveals that she added extra sugar to Shane's beer to make it stronger. Worried by the revelation, Dipi gets her phone out to let Shane know, as an upset Yashvi starts lamenting her bad choices including failing the football draft and potentially ruining Shane's reputation as a respected microbrewer. Dipi consoles her daughter but tells her that she acts like Mishti when she's had too much to drink, which makes Yashvi even more upset. Yashvi goes to get her phone to give Mishti a call, but she is unable to find it and Dipi tracks it using her own phone. She finds that Yashvi has left the phone at the pavilion and volunteers to pick it up due to Yashvi's condition, leaving Sonya to tend to her.

..

At the Coffee Hut Gary is keeping watch, worried that Kev could return. As he creeps around the hut, he spots someone coming towards him and rushes towards them, crash tackling them against the wall of the building. They fall to the ground as a shocked Gary realises it wasn't Kev he just rugby tackled but Dipi. He realises with growing horror that she is fully unconscious.
