At no. 22, Jane is happy to see Nicolette, Aaron and Isla, but wonders where David is, wanting to know exactly what's going on. Aaron says that David will be
along soon, and Jane goes to spend some time with Isla. Nicolette then pointedly asks Melanie exactly what she's told everyone, and Mel explains that she's
told them everything that happened, up until the day before Paul and Terese's vow renewal. Aaron addresses Holly, saying that he's heard that she knew Krista
too, but Nicolette interrupts, suggesting that she, Melanie and Aaron should go outside for a chat. Terese and Toadie, however, are adamant that there should
be no more secrets, so Melanie starts to tell them the rest, saying that whilst everyone else was excited about the vow renewal, all she could think about was
Krista...
..
A year earlier, at no. 30, a tearful Melanie is looking at a photo from her wedding day, but quickly composes herself when Toadie comes in the front door.
He's talking about Karl and Mike's songwriting weekend and his hope that it improves their music, but he realises that something is wrong with Mel. He assumes
that she's still blaming herself for Hugo's accident, and she says that she should have seen the danger. Toadie hugs her and says that she should be kinder to
herself, but she just rushes off, his nice words only making her feel worse.
At the Waterhole, Melanie is chatting to David, convinced that it was Eden who tampered with the van. David wonders if she should go to the police, but Melanie
says that would mean explaining the full story. She becomes upset, as Paul walks in, joking that she should save her tears until he's given his speech at the
ceremony. Paul quickly realises that something's wrong and, as David tries to change the subject, Melanie sees Eden walk in and chases after him, with David
and Paul in hot pursuit.
..
Eden runs into the Lassiters reception and enters the lift, with Melanie failing to catch him as the doors close. David runs in behind her and she points
out that she was going up, so they go to use the other lift.
David and Melanie run out onto the rooftop pool, where preparations are underway for the vow renewal. They try to see if they can spot Eden, but David is
drawn into a chat with Leo and Elly, while Terese pulls Melanie aside to talk with Imogen. As they both make their excuses, they see Eden and go after him,
but are foiled again, as Chloe stops them and asks for their help with putting up decorations.
..
At the penthouse, Melanie tells David that she's a nervous wreck and he admits that he doesn't like keeping this from Aaron - who has walked in with Nicolette
and Paul, and they all want to know what's going on. Melanie is worried about dragging anyone else into her mess, but Paul insists, asking Mel is she's in
some kind of trouble. She says that she'll only tell them if they promise not to say a word to Toadie.
In the present day, Melanie explains that she then told the whole story to Paul, Aaron and Nicolette - but she knew that she still had to get Krista off her
back, so she arranged to meet her that night on the Lassiters rooftop, and she wasn't going to leave until she'd shut Krista down completely.
..
A year earlier, Melanie arrives to meet Krista, who immediately wants to know if she's brought the money. Melanie says that there won't be any more money,
but Krista says that they know she has the money, as she's married to a lawyer. Melanie realises that she's referring to herself and Eden, and says that
Krista needs professional help. She offers to help her to get it, but she says that she won't fuel her drug addiction any further. Krista says that Mel
could get the money from Paul instead, but Melanie simply says that, if Krista is that desperate for money, she could ask her own family. She then goes to
leave and Krista tries to stop her, so she turns and pushes her. Krista falls back into the pool, hitting her head as she goes down. Melanie screams, then
jumps into the pools and starts to drag Krista out of the water.
In the present day, Melanie explains to a stunned Toadie, Terese, Susan and Holly that she got Krista out of the water, but she wasn't breathing.
..
A year earlier, Melanie notices that her phone is at the bottom of the pool, so she can't call for help. She starts performing CPR on Krista, who has
blood coming out of a cut on her head.
In the present day, Melanie says that she knew she needed help, so she raced to the nearest person, the worst person she could have gone to. She admits
that, if she'd thought about it properly, she would have realised that he'd take matters into his own hands.
..
A year earlier, Melanie rushes out of the lift into the penthouse, asking Paul for his phone. He goes to hand it over, asking what's happened. An
increasingly hysterical Melanie says that she pushed Krista into the pool and now she's not breathing. She says that she thinks she's killed her. Paul
tells Mel to stay in the penthouse and he goes over to the lift.
In the present day, Melanie says that she had no idea what Paul was planning to do. At the moment, Paul bursts in, with David close behind. Paul
immediately tells Melanie to stop talking, but Toadie says that it's too late - they already know that Krista is dead. Terese adds that they don't
yet know what Paul did on the hotel rooftop. Paul tells Melanie that she's made a very big mistake - she apologises and says that she knows he was only
trying to help her. Jane and Terese then demand to know what Paul did. As they all look at Paul, police sirens can be heard in the distance and David
tells his father that it's time to do the right thing.
..
Aaron, David, Nicolette, Paul, Melanie and Holly are all accompanied by the police through the Lassiters complex. Paul asks Melanie if she has any idea
what she's done, but she says that this was all going to come out eventually. She says that they all need to stop thinking about themselves and start
thinking about the person who lost their life - Krista Sinclair. Paul and Holly are both stunned as they realise that Krista was a member of the Sinclair
family.
In the police station, Paul is waiting to be questioned, as Andrew, accompanied by Senior Sergeant Thompson, walk in. Andrew explains that they've got
their statements from everyone else, and Paul says that he'll give his statement now, without his lawyer present. Thompson begins the interview, and Paul
says that, whatever any of the others have said, he was just as much a victim in all of this as any of them. He explains that he was put in an impossible
situation so he did what he could to protect the people he loves. Andrew asks what happened when he got to the roof, and Paul says that he rushed up there,
hoping to find Krista still alive, but there was no sign of her, just some blood on the ground. He says that it seemed like there was nobody there, until
Eden appeared...
..
A year earlier, Paul is surprised as Eden appears from the shadows. He asks what happened to Krista, and Eden says that he's done him a huge favour. He
says that it wouldn't be a good look for Paul, on the eve of his wedding, to have a scandal like this come out. Paul insists that, whatever happened, he
had nothing to do with it, but Eden says that it's still his hotel and it wouldn't be able to recover from something like this. Paul is lost for words as
Eden says that he seems like the kind of guy who'd be open to a deal...
In the present day, Andrew recaps that Eden blackmailed Paul for half a million dollars to keep quiet. Paul says that Eden had already moved the body, he
had no choice but to go along with it as he'd been left in an impossible situation. The police want to know why he didn't just call them, but Paul explains
that it all happened so fast and he just reacted to the situation in the best way he saw fit at the time. He goes on to say that David also had a lot to
lose...
..
A year earlier, Paul returns to the penthouse, where Melanie, David, Aaron and Nicolette are waiting for news. David immediately wants to know if the police
have been called, but Paul says that they haven't and none of them are going to call them either. Melanie worries that Krista's body is still on the rooftop,
but Paul says that she was gone when he got there.
In the present day, Paul tells the police that David was always dead against the idea of covering up Krista's death, and that none of this should reflect on
him.
..
A year earlier, everyone is stunned to hear about what happened with Eden, with David still wanting to involve the police, but Nicolette and Aaron both
remind him that he's still on probation. Mel becomes upset about dragging them all into her mess, but Paul stops them all and says that he'd done what's
best for everyone. David counters that this is just about Paul and saving his reputation, but Paul insists that his main concern is preventing David from
going back to jail, and Melanie facing serious charges. Paul says that the best thing they can do it keep their mouths shut and focus on the vow renewal
tomorrow, with Nicolette agreeing with Paul.
In the present day, Paul again says that it all happened very quickly and his first thought was to protect David and Melanie. He adds that Eden Shaw is the
real criminal in all this and that he was hanging around again that morning, trying to get more money out of him. Senior Sergeant Thompson sarcastically
says that clearly this is all Eden's fault and there was no self interest on Paul's part. Paul then mentions that Krista is part of the Sinclair family -
Andrew says that they know, telling Paul that she's Reece's younger sister. Paul looks stunned at this new information.
..
Toadie and Terese are in the Lassiters complex. He's on the phone to Cara, thanking her and Remi for looking after the kids and saying that they'll explain
everything to them very soon. Terese sits down, saying that she needs a minute before they go and meet the others. She says that she keeps thinking about what was happening a year ago. As they talk, Melanie is inside the police station and she sees them across the complex and begins to cry.
A year earlier, Toadie is wrapping a gift for Paul and Terese, wondering what you give to the couple who have everything. Melanie adds that there's also
the matter of a groom who's been married six times, but Toadie says that they all need to stop counting at some point. As they reminisce about their own
wedding, she's busy looking for something and finally finds it - a charm necklace shaped like a pig. She explains that she's going to give it to Terese to
carry in her purse, and Toadie says that's a very Mel thing to do. She's about to go to get ready, but Toadie stops her and says that, although things have
been a bit weird lately, he'll never forget their wedding day and how happy he felt. They kiss and she says that she felt happy too. Once out of Toadie's
sight in the corridor, she starts to cry.
..
In the present day, Melanie continues to cry as she watches Toadie comforting Terese.
At the Waterhole, everyone is gathered as Holly plugs her phone in to charge behind the bar. She joins the group and David is explaining that they've all
given statements and are free to go - as long as they don't go too far. Jane says that she believed that Nicolette, Aaron and David had moved to the country
for a change in lifestyle, when all along it was because Melanie had dragged them into her mess. David says that it was also because of what Paul did to
fix it. As David talks, Terese looks angry and says that she still has some questions. She wants to know if any of them considered coming clean the next
morning, before the vow renewal. David tells her that some of them did - but they were overruled.
..
A year earlier, on the morning of the vow renewal, David is still saying that it's not too late to confess, with Melanie agreeing and saying that she
could give a statement and keep them all out of it. Paul and Nicolette are firmly against the idea, while Aaron says that he couldn't stand it if David
went back to jail. Nicolette says that David needs to think about Isla, and Melanie needs to think about Toadie, Nell and Hugo. Mel insists that her family
are the reason why she wants to confess, but Nicolette says that keeping their mouths shut is the only way they'll get through this. Paul agrees with her
and says that they need to get to the vow renewal, but David asks his father is he can really look Terese in the eye after what's happened. Before he can
answer, Leo arrives and they all leave.
In the present day, David is explaining to everyone that he didn't think what he'd said had any impact on Paul, he thought he'd just say his vows and carry
on like nothing had happened...
..
A year earlier, they all arrive on the rooftop, where Chloe, Elly and Imogen are amongst the guests. Susan says that, as everyone seems to have arrived,
they can begin. Terese says that she'd like to take a leaf out of Melanie's book and go first, so she begins:
"Paul, one year ago we were guests at another wedding. But we were about to go our separate ways, but then we got back together. And I'm sure a few of you
are wondering what happened there. Well it was simple, really. We sat down and we talked about who we are as people and I told you that you're it for me.
And in that moment I was thinking, it's Paul Robinson and I'm OK with that. So I'd like to give you props in front of all these witnesses and say that in
this last year, you've surprised me. I mean, you're far from the model citizen, you're not far from it. And you did that for me and I'm really grateful.
I've got a poem. Can I read it?"
As Terese speaks, Paul is struggling to keep the smile on his face as he looks at Terese and over at David. As she's about to read her poem, he stops her,
tells her he's sorry and says he can't do this, before walking out on her.
In the present day, Terese realises that all of this is why he walked out on her like that. David explains that Paul said he loved Terese too much to hurt
her. Toadie adds that Paul's actions have certainly caused a lot of pain, but at that, Terese gets up and rushes out of the bar, with Toadie following her.
..
Terese runs out of the Waterhole, with Toadie following her, closely followed by David, Aaron and Nicolette. Terese spots Paul talking to his lawyer outside
the police station and runs over, angrily asking him how he could do this, grabbing the attention of Andrew and Melanie as she does so. She wants to know how
he could do this to her, and to David and Melanie. Paul says that he wasn't thinking straight at the time and he did this because he loved her. Terese
reminds him that she told him that she accepted him for who he was and if he'd been honest, they could have worked through it together. Toadie tells Melanie
that she should have been honest too, and Terese angrily says that Paul and Melanie don't know the meaning of honesty, before storming off, leaving Paul
looking devastated.
