When Aubrey Laing and Sadie Rodwell deliberately started a fire at Erinsborough High, hoping that it would be enough to get Zara Selwyn expelled and sent away, it quickly spread out of control. With Zara trapped in the building, along with Mackenzie Hargreaves, it quickly turned into a rescue mission as the fire service arrived. Captain Nasri Abbas told school principal Susan Kennedy that he needed to know the layout of the building as, inside, Zara made her escape through an air vent, unable to help Mackenzie as she passed out from the smoke. After hearing what had happened, Mackenzie's boyfriend Hendrix made his way into the building to try and rescue her, but as he dragged her through the air vent, he was also overcome by the smoke and they both had to be rescued by Nasri.
