When Susan Kennedy agreed to consider the idea of getting a new pet, she was in for a shock when her husband Karl then returned home with an axolotl, or Mexican walking fish, named Axl, after Axl Rose. Though Karl was delighted with his new pet, Susan found it slightly creepy as it wandered around its tank, watching her in the kitchen, and insisted that he should take it back, but he explained that the pet store had a very strict 'no returns' policy. Later, at dinner, the Kennedys' houseguest Nate was also finding the new pet to be unsettling, but his boyfriend Chris admitted that he'd always wanted one, and relayed a story about a schoolfriend who'd had one, which had become bored after being left alone in the house while the family was on holiday, and had turned on its owner and attacked him, biting off the tip of his finger. Incredulous at first, Karl started to become concerned as Chris told him that the fish were carnivores with the instinct to fight and kill, and began to panic when he woke up in the fight and couldn't see the fish in the tank. As he frantically searched the lounge room, he woke Susan, who helped him at first, before realising how stupid they were being - she went over and turned on the light in the tank, and Axl was still in there. However, he had already decided that Axl would have to go, and Chris was in for a nasty surprise when his joke backfired on him, and Karl gave him the fish, reminding him that he'd said that he'd always wanted one.
