With her parents going through marital problems, young Hannah Martin was having a difficult time at home, so her great grandmother Helen Daniels arranged to cheer her up with some time at the Erinsborough pony club, where she could ride her horse, Painter. However, when they arrived there, owner Winnifred Bates snobbishly explained that they weren’t taking on new members, and that Hannah’s outfit didn’t meet with their dress code. Helen took Winnifred to one side and explained what a horrible time Hannah was having at home and that it would break her heart to have to leave without riding her horse. A sympathetic Winnifred agreed to allow Hannah to stay for the rest of the day, with Helen assuring her that when she came back, she would have all the correct riding gear.
