Bonnie was born to 17 year old Teresa Cammeniti in 2005. When she was pregnant, Teresa was too scared to tell her parents and too far along to have an abortion and so she turned to her cousin Carmella. Carmella was in need of money to pay for an ear operation for her ex boyfriend Connor’s daughter in an attempt to win him back and made the decision to sell Teresa’s baby for $100,000 to the Hingston’s, who couldn’t have children.

Both cousins hated what they had done, Carmella becoming a nun and Teresa cutting herself off from her family. Eventually, Carmella tracked Teresa down, who was furious with Carmella and desperate for her baby. Carmella went to the Hingston's, wanting to try and persuade them to allow Teresa some access to Bonnie. But she was horrified to discover that Bonnie had died three months earlier and Teresa was devastated when she found out.

This led to Teresa plotting to steal Sky Mangel’s baby, which resulted in her throwing boiling water in Carmella’s face and setting the hospital on fire. When her plan failed, Teresa was taken into custody and her father Raimondo took revenge on his brother Rocco, Carmella’s father, by attempting to destroy his fruit business.
