During his campaign to become Erinsborough's new mayor, Paul Robinson went up against Karl Kennedy, with both planning to provide the town with a new childcare facility. Whilst Karl was facing strong opposition to his plan to use most of the local community centre for daycare, Paul announced that he intended to use the council-owned men's shed, converting it into a childcare centre. Though some of the local men were opposed, Paul pressed ahead with the plan and asked property developer Peter Slattery to help. However, Paul's colleague at Lassiter's hotel, Terese Willis, was suspicious but managed to have a chat with the indiscreet Mr Slattery before he left that evening. She learnt that Peter was helping Paul, in return for Paul pushing Peter's next project quickly through council approval, once he became mayor. Though Terese was outraged, Paul pointed out that if she said anything, she'd be bringing the hotel into disrepute, breaking the terms of her contract, and he'd be forced to fire her. As Terese instead went to Karl with the information, Paul was forced to act quickly, so he sacked Peter and hired another, more discreet, developer, Ling Chee. He then went to Terese with a bottle of wine, thanking her for exposing dodgy Peter Slattery, and making it clear that, once he became mayor, he'd be coming down hard on dodgy business practices in Erinsborough.
