When school librarian Virginia Cusack, an old friend of Evan and Maggie Hancock, and godmother to their son, Leo, joined the Erinsborough High school council, it wasn’t long before rumours started circulating that school principal Susan Kennedy was about to be ousted from her job. When Evan later spoke to the local newspaper about the bullying problem at the school, Virginia saw it as an opportunity to make Susan the scapegoat and get her out of the job, but Evan and Maggie thought it was slightly extreme and refused to back up her cause. When Evan then called an emergency meeting of the school council, it was interrupted by Leo, who admitted that he’d lied about being bullied and, although the whole problem appeared to have been blown out of proportion, Susan considered following Virginia’s train of thought and not renewing her tenure.
