When Nina Tucker began her music career by signing up with agent Melody Jones, Melody was keen for a little bit of cross-promotion with another of her clients, Robbie D. She decided to send the two of them off to a film premiere together, as Robbie was already a big star and it would help to raise Nina’s profile. As the couple arrived at Lassiter’s Hotel, with several photographers waiting, he took the opportunity to kiss her and the photo appeared in the papers the next day. Nina had a hard time explaining it to boyfriend Jack Scully and things got worse when Melody announced that Nina and Robbie would be going on an Asian tour together. Jack was informed that he wouldn’t be able to join them and, while they were away, Robbie and Nina shared another kiss, this time without the cameras rolling. Some weeks later, Nina got a cruel shock and an introduction to the realities of show business when she heard Robbie singing one of her songs on the radio. She realised that her contract with Melody had signed away most of her rights, but with some help from her mum, Trixie, she managed to get out of it.
