Alex Delpy 2012
Occupation: Doula

After feeling smothered by attention from partner Toadie, mum-to-be Sonya Rebecchi was given the idea of hiring a doula to help her through her pregnancy. Toadie was eventually persuaded to give it a try, but after interviewing several unsuccessful women for the position, he was alarmed when Sonya found someone else - a man named Alex. Toadie struggled to hide his jealousy as Sonya and Alex got on well but he agreed to make an effort and took Alex out for a beer. During the conversation, Toadie asked whether Alex had ever been tempted by any of the women he'd worked with, and Alex implied that it wasn't a problem, with Toadie jumping to the conclusion that Alex was gay, and immediately becoming more relaxed around him. Later, Alex explained to Sonya that he wasn't actually gay, and had never stated that he was, but it would probably help matters if Toadie continued to believe it. A few months later, Sonya was in the final couple of weeks of her pregnancy when she started to experience labour pains. Although she and Toadie initially thought that they were Braxton Hicks contractions, Alex was called in as it became clear that this was the real thing. He helped to calm down Sonya, and an increasingly frustrated Toadie as the labour dragged on, and supported Toadie when Sonya was adamant that she didn't want to go to hospital. When her waters finally broke, Alex realised that something was wrong and told Toadie to call an ambulance, trying to keep him calm as Sonya was taken away by the paramedics. Alex then gave Toadie and Sonya's older son Callum a lift to the hospital, before returning to 30 Ramsay Street and tidying things up for the family's homecoming.
