After it was revealed that Maria Ramsay had cheated on husband Max, and that he wasn't really the father of their younger son Danny, their elder son Shane tried to get the truth from both of his parents. Believing that Maria had been the only one at fault, Shane confronted her and she explained that she had only cheated on Max because she'd gone looking for him at the pub the next morning, and found out that he'd gone up to one of the rooms with another woman. Maria then explained to Shane that she'd left him with her good friend Helen Daniels and gone away to the country to think things through, where she'd met free-spirited Tim Duncan. He'd made her feel loved and desired, and they had a brief affair, before he drove out of her life for good, unaware that she was pregnant with his son - a secret that she shared only with Helen, until it finally came out when Danny was a teenager.
