After Connor O’Neill and his girlfriend Michelle Scully ran away from Erinsborough to avoid his problems with the immigration authority, they ended up in a small town, where they decided that getting married would solve all their problems. They visited Father Maltby, who explained that, at 19 and 16, they were a little young to be considering marriage, but if they truly wanted to go ahead with it, they would need a licence and the permission of Michelle’s parents. Unfortunately, this wasn’t going to be possible, but Father Maltby insisted that he would have married them otherwise.
