Roger Garvey 2002
Marital Status: Isabella (Divorced)
Children: Saxon
Occupation: Businessman

When Saxon Garvey moved into Ramsay Street with his reclusive mother, Isabella, he spoke to few of his new neighbours, but Harold Bishop was a great support when Isabella died, even giving Saxon somewhere to stay. Soon after, Saxon’s father, Roger, got in touch, but Saxon didn’t want to know, particularly as he hadn’t even bothered to come to Isabella’s funeral. When Roger then visited Saxon, he treated the boy like another of his business deals, telling him that he would have to move to an expensive boarding school in Sydney, and his secretary would email the information. Saxon refused to go, and Harold pointed out to Roger that Saxon needed love and support, not money thrown at him. Roger explained that he had struggled to know Saxon when he was growing up, blaming Isabella for moving around and not keeping in touch, and he went on to say that it would be too difficult for him to have his son with him, as he made so many business trips to America.

The next morning, Roger visited again, before returning to Sydney to think things over. Before he went, he tried to give Harold a cheque to thank him for looking after Saxon, but Harold refused to take it. The following week, Roger returned to see Saxon, and explained that he had made a few changes, and had relocated his business to Sydney, meaning less overseas trips. He explained to his son that, if he attended the boarding school during the week, they would be able to spend their weekends together. Although Saxon insisted that he wanted to stay in Ramsay Street, Harold explained that he just didn’t have the strength to be a foster parent any longer and encouraged Saxon to at least give his father’s idea a try. And so, that night, Roger and Saxon left to spend the night at Lassiter’s hotel, before returning to Sydney the next morning.
