One of Helen Daniels' nosy neighbours, Iris Gough had recently returned from a Pacific cruise when she heard that Helen's grandson Scott and his best friend Danny had run away, with the police looking to question them over Danny allegedly mugging another neighbour, Carol Brown. Visiting Helen with the excuse of returning a letter that had been mistakenly delivered to the Gough house, Iris started fishing for gossip, blaming Danny's father Max, plus the fact that Danny's mum Maria was descended from European immigrants, for the whole situation. Helen did her best to be polite, dropping hints that she needed to get on with some housework, before eventually lying that Scott and Danny were simply away on holiday, and completely ignoring Iris' attempts to find out more about the stripper that had just moved into number 28.
