Whilst attending the 1999 Oakey Rodeo with Libby Kennedy, Drew Kirk met up with old friends Ray and Shelley Hanson. Shelley was heavily pregnant and already overdue and, just as Libby and Drew were about to share their first kiss in the middle of the Rodeo Ball, Shelley’s waters broke and she screamed as she went into labour. By the next morning, baby Ruby had been born and Libby and Drew paid her and her proud parents a visit at the Oakey Hospital. Although they’d missed out on their kiss, seeing baby Ruby proved to be a bonding experience for Libby and Drew and, later that day, he admitted to his father that he was falling in love with her.
