When Libby Kennedy was offered a job as youth affairs reporter for the Chronicle newspaper, then editor Martin West found out she was pregnant and suddenly the job disappeared, she decided to sue. Unfortunately, the newspaper had fast-talking lawyer Simon Hart on their side and he visited Libby and charmed her, telling her that the verbal contract with Martin was worth nothing and she would never win her case. Libby’s lawyer Maggie Hancock wasn’t fooled, however, and despite Simon’s jibes about her lack of experience, she said that they would be pursuing the case. Simon informed them that the a girl who turned the job down before Libby had become available, and the pregnancy had nothing to do with it, so they would never win the case, before later offering them an out-of-court settlement of $10,000.
