Following the death of his former lover Priya, Paul Robinson was struggling to move on with his life, or deal with his feelings about what had happened. His niece Kate was becoming increasingly concerned for him, and when a random woman - who Paul called Maddy, but whose name was actually Mia - came down the stairs one morning, Kate told her uncle that random one-night-stands were not a healthy way to cope. Annoyed with her interference, Paul told Kate to butt out of his affairs and, if she didn't like the way he was living his life, she could move out.
