Following the failure of Des and Daphne's first attempt to marry, Daphne took a week’s holiday and left her friend Zoe Davis in charge of the Coffee Shop. As her culinary talents were limited, Zoe was forced to hire a cook. Unfortunately this proved to be a disastrous move when she got an ex-shearer's cook called Les "Lambchop" Lannigan, from Augathella. He noisily clattered pans in the kitchen but when Paul Robinson and Max Ramsay ordered his homemade steak and kidney pie it was slow to arrive and, in Max's own words, tasted like pigswill. Lambchop overheard the complaints and walked out of the job, and Zoe was forced to hire another two cooks before Daphne returned.
