When a heavily pregnant Steph Hoyland realised that her breast cancer, which she had beaten two years earlier, had returned, she was informed that the radiotherapy might harm her unborn baby. Though it reduced her chances of beating the illness, Steph decided to wait until her child was born before commencing treatment, though her husband, Max, was strongly against the idea. When he realised that he couldn’t change her mind, a desperate Max decided to try and get her declared mentally unfit, thus being able to take the decision out of her hands. He invited psychiatrist Helen McNamara to their home, but as soon as Steph realised what was going on, she threw the doctor, and her husband, out.
