When Elle Robinson, desperate for revenge on Max Hoyland for running over and killing her brother Cameron, started playing tricks on him to make him think he was going mad, he suspected she was behind it and hired private detective Ray McQueen to watch her. He then set her up by leaving the keys to his new car lying around in the bar, and she took the bait, stealing the keys and driving off in the car, all the time being watched by Ray. But after phoning Max to confirm his suspicions, Ray was spotted by Elle, who approached him and offered to pay him off. When, later, the photos arrived and proved absolutely nothing, Max ended up looking more crazy than ever as he ranted about her guilt.
