Catherine Michael 2007
Occupation: QC
When lawyer Toadie Rebecchi realised that he couldn't represent his surrogate mum Susan - who had fallen asleep at the wheel and run down Bridget Parker - his law firm Rebecchi Cammeniti brought in city QC Catherine Michael to take over the case. Abrupt Catherine surprised Toadie and his partner Rosie Cammeniti by getting down to business straight away, doing away with small talk and demanding a series of reports from the accident scene if they were ever going to keep Susan out of jail. When Rosie was then called away to an emergency with her pregnant sister Carmella, Catherine asked Toadie if Rosie was planning to start a family. Meanwhile, Susan and her husband Karl arrived for a meeting during which Catherine asked some brutal questions, leaving Susan more worried that ever. When Rosie returned, Catherine quickly offended her - and made her start to question her beliefs - by telling her that women had enough trouble rising to the top in the law business without having to take time off to have children.
The stand-off between the two women continued as Catherine dismissed Rosie's ideas for the case, and Rosie eventually confronted her colleague about her attitude. Toadie quickly forced Rosie to apologise, but Catherine calmly explained that she believed Rosie's ideals of having a career and a family were nothing more than a pipe dream. The final straw came for Rosie when she, Toadie and Catherine were leaving for lunch and Catherine asked Rosie's taxi driver husband Frazer to take her bags to the car. After Rosie explained who Frazer was, she went on to tell Catherine that she had been treating her like dirt. Catherine promptly told Toadie and Rosie that the only reason they were being so defensive was because they all knew that Susan's case was unwinnable. A furious Toadie then told Catherine that they didn't need her negative attitude, and she left, before Toadie blamed Rosie for the mess they were now in.
