When four-year-old Charlie Hoyland was injured when a filing cabinet fell on top of him, at the garage where his mum Steph worked, he was rushed to hospital. Things became awkward as Charlie was treated by Veronica Olenski, whose husband, Greg Michaels, Steph had been seeing, and was talking to when the accident took place. Nurse Brooke Mitchell took the information from a panicked Steph, and after several tests, Charlie was given the all clear. A few weeks later, Brooke assisted when Harold Bishop was rushed in, having suffered a heart attack and again in March when pregnant Libby Kennedy was rushed in, suffering a miscarriage.

Some weeks later, Nurse Mitchell caught up with Dr Newton to explain to her that some test results for a Mr Davidson had come back. Though Dr Newton was about to sit down and get on with some paperwork, she went to see the patient, which was lucky for Paul Robinson, who had been snooping for information on the Kennedy surrogacy case and was hiding behind a curtain.
