After Kate Ramsay was murdered, her uncle Paul Robinson and fiance Mark Brennan were both determined to find her killer. When other leads dried up, Paul returned to his initial belief that the murder was connected to Brennan's time as a detective, when he uncovered a corruption ring and had to go into witness protection. Paul convinced Brennan to go to the storage facility where the case files were kept, and retrieve them to see if there were any other leads to follow. Straight-laced Brennan wasn't keen on the idea, and when the desk clerk, Lester, told Brennan that he couldn't access the files without the relevant paperwork, Brennan decided to sneak in anyway. However, after almost being caught by a security guard, Brennan found the files, but ultimately decided that he couldn't break the law, so he put them back without reading them.
